Java, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Thu April 24th)

Best Days: Every day over the coming period

Friday and the weekend (Apr 24 - 27)

We should be on the back-side of the large swell seen earlier this week today and a low point in surf is due overnight with some new S/SW groundswell due to arrive through tomorrow afternoon and peak Saturday.

This swell was due to peak in WA yesterday arvo but has instead peaked this morning and as a result we may not see the swell arriving until very late or after dark tomorrow, but a peak is still due on Saturday. Size wise we should see inconsistent 4-5ft+ sets at exposed breaks before easing slowly Sunday and further into Monday.

Next week onwards (Apr 26 onwards)

Our large and inconsistent S/SW groundswell is still on track for later Tuesday ahed of a peak Wednesday across Eastern Indonesia with a vigorous polar low currently pushing east from a position south-east of South Africa, towards WA while generating a fetch of severe-gale SW winds (pictured right). Stronger storm-force winds are forecast to develop at the lows core temporarily, with the swell due to arrive later Tuesday and peak Wednesday to 8ft to occasionally 10ft at exposed breaks.

We'll see the swell hold well into Thursday morning as a broad front associated with the polar low projects north up along the WA coast and extends just south of us early next week, producing a reinforcing S/SW swell that will soften the easing trend.

From Friday onwards the swell will drop noticeably with the next increase due Sunday in the form of a medium acute S/SW groundswell, but we'll review this again Tuesday.

Coming back to the winds expected over the coming period and light to moderate trades are due through the weekend with winds tending more westerly in nature (but only light) with next week's swell.
